Ingredients
Rice - 1 cup
Red gram(Thuvaraparippu) - 1/4 cup
Red chillies - 4 - 5 nos (tear into halves)
Curry leaves - A few
Asafoetida(Kaayam) - A pinch
Oil - As reqd
Ghee - As reqd
Mustard seeds
Salt - As reqd
Water - 4 cups
Preparation Method
1) Heat oil in a pan.
2) Add asafoetida and splutter mustard seeds.
3) Add red chillies and curry leaves and saute.
4)Place the washed rice and daal followed by water in a pressure cooker.
5)Add salt and the seasoning into the cooker and mix well.
6)Keep the above mixed rice in the cooker for 4 whistles.
7)After 4 whistles, take the pongal out.
8)Pour ghee on top.
:- Serve hot with the sambaar.
